Is Small Farmer's Journal's website an online version of the magazine? No. Small Farmer's Journal is both a publishing company and a periodical. This website serves the entire business and as such offers information and products beyond the contents of SFJ. This website also serves as a fully functioning catalog store where you may get information on our products and order direct if you choose. We will be working to regularly update the website newsletter "SFJ ON...," and the announcements as well as the Journal index and new product listings . We see this site as an information based extension of Small Farmer's Journal, Farm Romance & adventure and our other product lines.

MORE IMPORTANT QUESTIONS

Can I make a decent living with a small farm? Yes. And the good news is that it ain't easy. You have to work hard and use your imagination and creativity. That's the fun and rewarding part. The hard part will be making the decision, the commitment, and taking the plunge. It's important to be wary of conventional wisdom on this subject because many will tell you you can't do it. They honestly believe it can't be done or have some reason to discourage you. They believe that farming must be approached industrially and at an industrial scale in these modern times. Even though statistics show that gross incomes per acre from small craft-based organic farming enterprises regularly exceed agribusiness per acre production by 200 to 500 percent! Seek out people who are doing it and successfully. Seek out people who are excitedly going about their own move to realize the dream of a small farm. Through these people, and the communities such as that represented by the readership of Small Farmer's Journal, you will gain strength through encouragement.

Can I farm with draft horses or mules? Yes, if you have the right temperament. It's not about your size or physical strength. It's about your common sense, sensitivity, and determination. It is an evasive and subtle craft but it can be learned. In order to succeed you must seek out good help during the learning process. For the small diversified farm or ranch, horsepower is not just an option, it is a tremendous plus for self-sufficiency. Small Farmer's Journal has offered and continues to offer a wide variety of practical and inspirational information on this subject in every issue.
